Quotes from Misbah Presser
‘Winning at Lord’s… There is no better feeling than that’
Speaking after Pakistan’s victory, Misbah-ul-Haq said: “Winning the first Test match, especially at Lord’s after a long time, is very satisfying. There is no better feeling than that. We were confident we would win although we had worries when Woakes and Bairstow played well but we always knew we could win.”
He said: “Preparation was important when you are coming to conditions which you are not familiar with. Everybody worked hard throughout our training camp. It was a proper chance to acclimatise and good for us that our batsmen got confidence. Our bowling attack is very good.”
Speaking about Yasir, he said: “We always believed in him and that he can bowl in good areas. Leg-spinners get wickets with drift and the slope also helped him. He used these things to his advantage.”
Asked about Amir, he replied “I didn’t see Amir nervous. He was bowling like he did six years ago. He is a confident boy. Now that it’s over, he can become very effective.”
Speaking about the team, he said: “Obviously the team is together. The team hoped for the chance to perform press-ups and send a tribute to the army men who worked with us at the boot camp. These men don’t receive much salary but work for our flag and nation.”
Talking about the final wicket, Misbah said: “It was a special moment for Amir to take the final wicket and it could be part of a new life for him. He can be a good cricketer and human being. He is lucky he got another chance.”
Asked about the bowlers, he said: “The seamers wickets [early on] took pressure off Yasir. Rahat gave us important wickets with the first three wickets. He is the man in form. After that we were really in the game.”
Finally speaking about Mickey Arthur, he said “Mickey Arthur wants to ensure we are familiar with conditions and do everything we need. We did a lot of preparation."
