KARACHI: Afghanistan coach Rashid Latif on Tuesday said that he plans to invite the Pakistan team to Afghanistan for an international series in the near future.
“I have lots of plans for Afghanistan team and one of them is to invite Pakistan team to Jalalabad for an international series in about six months’ time,” he told ‘The News’ from Islamabad.
Pakistan A will take on Afghanistan on Wednesday (today) and this is the first occasion, when a international team has travelled to Pakistan after the March 2009 attack on Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore.
Latif believes that this series is extremely important for both the nations as there is something at stake for both the nations.
“For Pakistan it is important in terms of reviving international cricket, while for us this is a chance to show our mettle against the top sides of the world,” he said.
“We are happy with the security provided to us and truly speaking we don’t care about the security condition, as we are fearless and only want to concentrate on the game.”
Latif said that his team would try to play their best cricket to showcase their potential. “We would try to play at our very best to show our capabilities to the world,” he said.
Latif added that his side has ODI status but yet major teams have not taken them seriously. “Other stronger nations have been neglecting us, when it comes to playing a series or an international match. This is a perfect opportunity to tell them what we can do.”
