In-competition samples to be analyzed by WADA accredited lab: Two players to be selected for testing in every first-class-match
LAHORE–November 7, 2014: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has commenced sample collection in domestic cricket under its Doping Control Program from today (Friday, November 07, 2014).
For the last three years, during the domestic season the PCB has been regularly conducting Doping Awareness Educational Program as well as on In-Competition Dope Testing.
Dr. Sohail Saleem, PCB’s head of Medical & Sports Sciences, said, “In order to familiarize players and managements with doping issues, like the previous two years the PCB also launched a Doping Awareness lecture series with all its regional as well as departmental teams appearing in first class cricket in 2014-15. These lectures were conducted throughout Pakistan by the staff of PCB’s Medical and Sports Sciences Department.
“More than 400 athletes and team management personnel appeared in this lecture series. It was reiterated to the players and management that since lack of education is no excuse for being tested positive, it is imperative that players appraise themselves with doping/anti-doping education.”
In collaboration with an independent Anti-Doping Agency, the in-competition urine samples will be sent to a WADA accredited lab to be analyzed. “In every first-class match, two players will be selected for dope testing by a draw conducted by match referee or the respective managers of the playing teams”, said Dr. Sohail Saleem.
