Mohsin Khan said he is sure the players will continue to perform well throughout the series
LAHORE: Praising the performance of Pakistan in the ongoing five-match One-day International series against the West Indies, chief selector Mohsin Khan advised the players to avoid complacency as the Caribbean team could stage a comeback in the series.
Pakistan are 2-0 ahead in the series by winning the first two matches by big margins. Talking to Dawn, Mohsin said team’s overall performance was praiseworthy and he was sure the players would continue to perform well throughout the series.
He said the series had provided a good opportunity to Pakistan’s youngsters to show their mettle and they should avail this opportunity as it would benefit them in future.
“I hope every youngster whether he is a batsman or a bowler will get full advantage of the chance he is given as it will be very useful for the future of Pakistan cricket,” Mohsin said.
He also praised the performance of middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq and opener Ahmed Shehzad.
“Asad is showing improvement every passing day as far as maturity is concerned, and Ahmed, after his failure in the World Cup, got another chance and his century in the second ODI was a responsible knock. He will be very useful for the team if he continues his good performance.”
He said another positive note of the Pakistan team was that it was playing as a unit which was a good sign. The chief selector added the captain and team management were also doing very well.
“It is great pleasure to see that the team played the first two ODIs with a game-plan, showing improvement in batting, bowling and fielding departments,” he said.
“Spinners are doing a great job but it is difficult for fast bowlers on slow wickets, still they are trying very hard, which is a good omen.”
He said senior players like Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez were making sure that they were fulfilling their responsibilities. “I hope and I am sure all the good work will continue till the end of the series.”
To a question, he said the team for the two Test matches would be announced next week.
