LAHORE – March 19,2014: The head of European Union’s delegation to Pakistan His Excellency Lars-Gunnar Wigemark called on the PCB Chairman Mr Najam Sethi here on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Talking to the honoured guest, Mr Najam Sethi said: “The PCB is trying to bring back international cricket to Pakistan. Every diplomatic effort is being made for the revival of bilateral and other international cricket in this country.”
The PCB Chairman also briefed HE Lars-Gunnar Wigemark on cricket’s importance in Pakistan and the passion with which it was followed nationwide.
“The PCB is also in the process of revamping its domestic cricket with a view to raise competitive standards, taking it as close to international cricket as possible.
“The changes that we are likely to introduce soon shall considerably raise the bar in our first class cricket, indeed making it, as it should be, first rate.”
HE Mr Wigemark greatly appreciated the work being done to promote Pakistan cricket and Team Pakistan’s role and status in international cricket. He also hoped that as the security situation improves international cricket shall soon return to Pakistan.
Earlier, HE Mr Wigemark visited the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where he was welcomed by the PCB Director Game Development Mr Haroon Rashid, who briefed the honourable guest on the activities at the NCA and the Academy’s role in promotion and advancement of the game in the country. HE Wigemark was also taken for a round of the facility.
