MUMBAI - Gary Sobers is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever all rounders produced by West Indies, having excelled at all the essential skills of batting, bowling and fielding.
During the 4th ODI at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, he was invited at the Pakistan dressing room. This was revealed by the team manager, Intikhab Alam.
Speaking exclusively on reaching to his hotel room in Georgetown (Guyana) on Wednesday, Intikhab Alam said: "The 75-year-old Sobers' inputs to the team will be beneficial to our boys. He discussed the game at length and our players, who listened to him with passion, were highly impressive".
Sobers was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975 for his services to the game of cricket. He has also been enjoying the dual citizenship of Barbados and Australia through his marriage in 1980.
The rain interrupted 4th ODI was won by the West Indies, but the 5-match ODI series has already been grabbed by the visitors Pakistan. The last ODI match will be followed by the two-match Tests series, to be played at the Providence Stadium, Guyana today (Thursday).
"Sobers is a good friend of mine. I have played with him for the Rest of the World XI team against Australia and also in England in 1970s. During this tour, I have also met the other legendary Windies players, Everton Weeks (86 years), Charlie Griffith (73) and Lance Gibbs (77)". "Our players are very keen to meet another legendary batsman, Brian Lara", Alam concluded.
