LAHORE - Pakistan cricket team skipper Shahid Afridi has become the country’s most successful bowler in the Cricket World Cup competitions. Boom Boom Afridi, who grabbed four wickets against West Indies in the first quarter-final, has now taken 21 wickets in the event, which are the most wickets taken by any Pakistani bowlers in a World Cup.
The record was previously held by former skipper and legendary left-arm fast bowler Wasim Akram, who captured 18 scalps in the 1992 World Cup. Australia’s greatest fast bowler Glenn McGrath holds the record of taking the most number of wickets (26) in a single World Cup.
New ball? No problem: Pakistan off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez on Wednesday said he did not feel any pressure when captain Shahid Afridi handed him the new ball during the quarter-final against the West Indies. "The plan was made one day earlier that I have to bowl with the new ball," said Hafeez, who picked two wickets off the first and fourth ball of the sixth over to dismiss Devon Smith and Darren Bravo.
