Abid, Fakhar and Haris help Pakistan to series win

Karachi, 2 October 2019:  Pakistan marked the return of One-Day International cricket in Karachi with a series win over Sri Lanka as the hosts secured comfortable wins in the last two of the three matches after the first fixture was washed out.

Pakistan’s victory in the Wednesday contest came on the back of the contributions by Abid Ali, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail. 

Abid, adjudged man-of-the-match, hit 10 fours in his 67-ball 74 and added 123 runs for the first wicket with Fakhar, who scored 76 off 91 balls with seven fours and a six.


Haris scored an exciting 50-ball 56, laced with three fours and a six as Pakistan achieved victory with five wickets and 10 balls remaining.

For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Pradeep claimed two for 53 in 9.2 overs.

Earlier, the tourists finished at 297 for nine in 50 overs after opting to bat on a fresh pitch.

Danushka Gunathilaka top scored with career-best 133 off 134 balls – embellished with 16 fours and a six. This was the left-handed batsman’s second century in the format. Over the course of his innings, Gunathilaka put on 88 runs for the second-wicket with Lahiru Thirimanne (36 off 53).

The other notable run-getter was Dasun Shanaka, who struck five fours and two sixes in his quick-fire 43 off 24 balls.

Mohammad Amir was the pick of the bowlers with figures of three for 50 in his 10 overs.

Pakistan vice-captain Babar Azam was declared player of the series for accumulating 146 runs in two completed ODIs with the scores of 115 and 31.
