- University of Punjab, Kinnaird College, Jinnah University for Women, Karachi University, SBBWU Peshawar and Islamia University Bahawalpur emerge victorious in first round
Lahore, 29 May 2024: The University of Punjab got off the mark with a 63-run win over Lahore College for Women’s University (LCWU). Gull Rukh’s 41, Laraib Aziz’s 19 and Rida Aslam’s unbeaten 16 pushed University of Punjab to 124-5 in their 20 overs.
In return, left-arm wrist spinner Rida wreaked havoc with the ball picking up four wickets for 12 runs as LCWU fell flat for 61 in 16.1 overs.
In the second game of Lahore Zone, Kinnaird College bagged an easy win over Government College University (GCU). Kinnaird bundled out GCU for a mere 24 in 11.2 overs and then chased the target in two overs.
In Karachi Zone, Jinnah University beat IBA University by six wickets as they chased down the 75-run target in 15.1 overs.
Karachi University’s Yusra Amir (107 not out, 70b, 17x4s) smashed a brilliant unbeaten century in Karachi Zone’s other game as her team racked up 221-2 in 20 overs. In reply, Newport Institute folded for just 100 in 17.2 overs.
In an eight-over affair at Viqar-un-Nisa College, Rawalpindi, SBBWU, Peshawar overcame International Islamic University (IIU) by eight wickets. IIU scored 62-2 in the allotted eight overs which SBBWU knocked off in 6.3 overs, losing two wickets.
Yesterday, at Bahauddin Zakariya University Ground, Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) beat Women’s University Multan by a thumping margin of 156 runs. IUB’s Saba Khurshid scored an unbeaten 67 to help her team notch 170-3 in 20 overs. Women’s University, in return, were all out for a paltry 14 in 10.2 overs.
