Karachi, 18 April 2025: Karachi Kings swept aside Quetta Gladiators by 56 runs in a one-sided affair here at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Friday night following standout performances by James Vince and Hasan Ali.
Chasing 176 for victory, Gladiators’ batting collapsed as only three batters managed to reach double figures. Opening batter Finn Allen fell in the first over to Mir Hamza before regular wickets meant Gladiators had lost half their side inside the Powerplay with the score at 37.
Gladiators captain Saud Shakeel, who remained unbeaten on 33 off 40 balls with just three boundaries, couldn’t find any rhythm across the entire innings. A late counterattack by Mohammad Amir saw him score 30 off 16 deliveries with three sixes and two fours but it was not enough to get them over the line.
Mohammad Nabi, playing his first game of the HBL PSL X, turned the screws on Gladiators, conceding just seven runs in four overs and picking up the wickets of Kusal Mendis and Rilee Rossouw.
Hasan, who has been in fine form this tournament, achieved a major milestone as he became the highest wicket-taker in HBL PSL history with 116 wickets leaving behind Wahab Riaz (113 wickets). He grabbed three wickets for 27 runs in his four overs.
Earlier, Karachi Kings posted a fighting total of 175-7 thanks to a strong start and a composed middle-order effort. David Warner (31, 20b, 5x4s) and Tim Seifert (27, 15b, 6x4s) came out firing as early boundaries helped them to build momentum.
Abrar Ahmed then dismissed Warner in the final over of the Powerplay, followed by Saud castling Seifert. Gladiators’ spinners tightened their gripby slowing the score and picked up regular wickets.
Ali Majid was the pick of the bowlers, giving away 29 runs and taking two wickets along with Amir, who also got two scalps.
Vince, batting at no.4, once again scored crucial runs for Kings, smashing a well-crafted 70 off 47 balls (6x4s, 1x6), shifting gears when needed. Nabi added a late flourish with 18 off 12, including two big sixes in the final over, giving Kings a solid finish.
