Ubaid and Mansoor bag five-fors on opening day of eighth round

Karachi, 19 February 2025: Ghani Glass’ Ubaid Shah picked up his second first-class five-for as his team bowled State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) out for 233 in 51.5 overs against Eshaal Associates on opening day of the eighth round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi.

After winning the toss and putting SBP in to bat, Ghani Glass picked up two early wickets before Umar Amin (51, 71b, 8x4s) and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (77, 93b, 10x4s) came together to stitch a 125-run stand for the third wicket. However, no other batter stayed at the crease as SBP only managed 88 runs for the last seven wickets.

Ubaid returned figures of 12.5-0-46-5, while Noman Ali and Mir Hamza chipped in with two wickets apiece.

In turn, Ghani Glass’ Sharjeel Khan (40, 42b, 6x4s, 1x6) and Hammad Butt (45, 68b, 6x4s) put on 83 for the opening wicket. After Sharjeel’s departure Kashif Bhatti struck regularly to take four wickets for just eight runs in six overs leaving Ghani Glass reeling at 107-5 in 25 overs at stumps.

At the SBP Sports Complex, Khan Research Laboratories’ (KRL) Rohail Nazir brought up his fifth first-class century as he struck 120 off 197 balls inclusive of 17 fours against Eshaal Associates. He also added 197 runs for the third wicket with Imran Rafiq (76, 156b, 12x4s, 1x6) as KRL finished with 310-5 in 89 overs at close of play.

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) were 265-9 in 87.1 overs at stumps on day one against Pakistan Television (PTV) at the NBP Sports Complex.

OGDCL’s Wicketkeeper-batter Khayyam Khan, batting at No. 8, faced 120 balls for his unbeaten 80 inclusive of 11 fours and two sixes, while opening batter Sameer Saqib struck 142-ball 67 with the help of eight fours. PTV’s Ammad Butt returned figures of 4-76 in his 21 overs.

At the KCCA Stadium, half-centuries from Nabi Gul (88, 147b, 7x4s, 5x6s) and Imran Dogar (52, 95b, 7x4s) lifted WAPDA to 261 all out in 83.1 overs at stumps against Higher Education Commission (HEC). Mansoor Ali picked up five for 69 in 21.1 overs. HEC were 15-0 at stumps with openers Abdullah Fazal and Mohammad Mohsin Khan at the crease.
