- The right-handed opener becomes the first Pakistan woman batter to score a century in ODI World Cup
Hamilton, 14 March 2022: Sidra Amin’s brilliant century was in vain as Pakistan lost to Bangladesh by nine runs at Seddon Park in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022.
Sidra became the first Pakistan batter to register a ton in the tournament history as she made 104 off 140 balls, eight of which went for fours.
The right-handed opener provided a solid start along with Nahida Khan (43 off 67). The pair struck 91-run partnership for the first wicket – the highest for Pakistan in the women’s ODI World Cup.
Pakistan dominated the run chase for the most part and as they looked on their way to chase the 235-run target, leg-spinner Fahima Khatun’s double blows in the 44th over brought Bangladesh back into the game. The two wickets formed part of the collapse as Pakistan slipped from 183 for two to 188 for seven.
Fahima finished with three for 38. Rumana Ahmed returned two for 29.
Nashra Sandhu picked three for 41 after Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof elected to bowl, while Young Fatima Sana and all-rounders Nida Dar and Omaima Sohail picked up a wicket each.
The major contribution with the bat from Bangladesh’s side came from Fargana Hoque, who scored 71 off 115 (five fours), while their captain Nigar Sultana (46 off 64) and Sharmin Akhter (44 off 55) also made handy contributions.
Scores in brief:
Bangladesh 234-7, 50 overs (Fargana Hoque 71, Nigar Sultana 46, Sharmin Akhter 44; Nashra Sandhu 3-41)
Pakistan 225-9, 50 overs (Sidra Amin 104, Nahida Khan 43, Bismah Maroof 31)
