Second XI Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Asghar six-fer leads Sindh to a five-wicket win over Southern Punjab

Karachi, 7 December 2020: A six-fer in the second innings from Mohammad Asghar helped Sindh beat Southern Punjab by five wickets, while seven second innings wickets from Farhan Shafiq guided Northern to a comprehensive 182 runs win over Balochistan on day three of ninth-round match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy three-day non-first-class tournament.

Sindh vs Southern Punjab, KCCA Stadium, Karachi:

Resuming their innings on 103 for six, Southern Punjab were bowled out for 119 in 50.5 overs.

For Sindh, left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar took six for 53 and ended up with match figures of eight for 143. Other notable contribution came from right-arm off-spinner Ashiq Ali who grabbed four wickets for 31, and ended up with match figures of 10 for 115.

In reply, Sindh chased down the 208-run target in the 61st over with five wickets in hand. Faraz Ali top-scored with an unbeaten 79 off 162 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. He contributed an unbeaten 77 runs stand for the sixth wicket with Saifullah Bangash (34 off 78, four fours). Jahanzaib Sultan chipped in with a quick-fire 30-ball 36, which included two fours and three sixes.

Northern vs Balochistan, NBP Sports Complex, Karachi:

Resuming their innings on 87 for four, Northern were dismissed for 145 in 39.5 overs. Kashif Iqbal top-scored with 31 off 34 balls. For Balochistan, Gohar Faiz picked four for 60, while Hayatullah and Zainullah grabbed three wickets apiece.

Chasing 296 to win, Balochistan managed to score 113 for nine in 39 overs as last batsman Akhtar Shah was absent hurt. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai top-scored with a 56-ball 35, which included five boundaries.

For Northern, left-arm spinner Farhan Shafiq picked seven for 17 in 11 overs. He ended up with match figures of nine for 55.
