Saim (71 not out), Maaz (5-50) and Nisar (5-22) dominate day one of Cricket Associations Championship

Lahore, 18 October 2021: The fifth-round of the Cricket Associations Championship 2021-22 got underway in three Punjab venues today.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Maaz Khan, Central Punjab’s Nisar Ahmad took five wickets on the opening day, while Northern’s Jamal Anwar and Abdul Faseeh, Sindh’s Saim Ayub scored half-centuries.

Over at the Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan Academy Sheikhupura, Northern after being put into bat were bowled out for 210 in the 74th over. Wicketkeeper-batter Jamal Anwar top-scored with 67 off 125 balls hitting six fours and two sixes. He was well supported by opening batter Abdul Faseeh who scored 50 off 113 balls which included five fours.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s leg-spinner Maaz Khan picked five wickets for 50 while Zohaib Khan took three for 30.

At stumps, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were 27 for no loss.

Over at the LCCA Ground in Lahore, Southern Punjab were dismissed for 88 in the 35th over against Central Punjab. Right-arm fast bowlers Nisar Ahmad and Mohammad Ali shared nine wickets between them with Nisar grabbing five for 22 in 11 overs.

At the close of play Central Punjab were 164 for four in 36.1 overs taking a vital 76-run first innings lead. Opening batter Anas Mahmood scored 53 off 65 (nine fours) while Mohammad Irfan Khan struck an unbeaten 52 off 60 laced with eight fours.

Over at the Saeed Ajmal Academy Ground in Faisalabad, Balochistan were dismissed for 147 after opting to bat first. Ali Waqas (45 off 126, four fours) and Mohammad Shahid (30 off 53, four fours) were significant contributors for the batting side.

For Sindh, Arish Ali Khan picked three wickets for 41, while Junaid Ilyas, Danish Aziz and Ghulam Mudassar grabbed two wickets apiece.

At stumps, Sindh were 126 for two in 29 overs with Saim Ayub top-scoring with an unbeaten 71 off 87, hitting nine fours. Faraz Ali contributed unbeaten 49 off 76 balls, which included six fours and one six. The pair contributed 105 runs for the third-wicket partnership.
