Rejoinder

LAHORE–September 12: Chairman PCB Shaharyar Mohammad Khan’s meeting with President ICC Zaheer Abbas on the eve of the latter's departure to India, on September 11 afternoon at the Gaddafi Stadium, has been misreported in a section of the press.

To correct the record, Chairman PCB has issued the following statement:

“Media reporting of my meeting with Zaheer Abbas has been speculative and inaccurate. In my cordial meeting with ICC President, I emphasized that his visit to India was as President ICC and not as a representative of PCB.

“I briefed him fully on all issues relating to Pakistan with ICC or BCCI in the event of their being discussed informally on the sidelines.

“The important matter to be underscored is that PCB has requested BCCI to honor its own commitment in the MOU between the two Boards to play the next series against Pakistan in December 2015 in the UAE. We are not beseeching BCCI to fulfill this commitment. We have not held a home series with India for nearly a decade and if India decides not to play the series, we can overcome the challenge financially as we have done in the past.

“Zaheer Abbas as President of the global body can refer to ICC CEO’s recent statement that a Pakistan–India series is important for the revival of Test Cricket across the globe.”
