Lahore, 17 September 2023: Lahore Whites v Rawalpindi, being played in Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, suffered a delay caused by rain on second day of play of the second round of games in the QeAT 2023-2024. Similar fate followed the Peshawar v Multan game, being held at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium Rawalpindi, where play was called off without a ball being bowled. Day two of Karachi Whites vs Faisalabad was shortened by rain. Lahore Blues and FATA, who had their first day washed out, got significant overs of game today.
Lahore Whites v Rawalpindi
By the time stumps were called yesterday, Saad Naseem-led Lahore White were comfortably placed in the game; their scorecard boasting a healthy total of 349 at the expense of 3 wickets.
With only 10.3 overs bowled in the day, before play was called off owing to rain, Lahore added 58 more runs to their total.
Play for the day was called off at 4:45 pm, considering the conditions of the ground. The side was 407-3, at the time of stumps.
Karachi Whites v Faisalabad
At the end of the previous day’s play, Karachi stood at 141, having lost just one wicket. Omair Bin Yousaf and Ammad Alam remained unbeaten at the crease.
Play on the second day was delayed due to rain, and officially began at 4:00 pm, leading to a shortened day. Both Omair and Ammad lost their wickets and Rameez Aziz was also removed cheaply. Danish Aziz too could not contribute much.
Veteran Asad Shafiq was then joined on the crease by Sarfaraz Ahmed. Karachi thus ended the day with their two most experienced batters on the crease, as the scorecard read 203-5.
Peshawar v Multan
No play on day two due to wet outfield at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.
FATA v Lahore Blues
Lahore Blues won the toss and elected to field first. The Imran Butt-led team put up a dominating performance in the first innings and bowled out the opposition for just 140 runs.
Salman Khan Jnr was the highest scorer for FATA, with his 40 runs. Mohammad Wasim Khan’s 23 runs were the second highest contribution. Hunain Shah’s three-wicket-haul, two wickets by Hussain Talat, accompanied by a wicket apiece for Waqas Ahmed, Kashif Bhatti and Ali Shafiq displayed collective bowling success.
Trailing by 140, Lahore began their batting innings in a comfortable position. However, quick wickets at the top unsteadied their innings. The side scraped to 83, losing four wickets in the day. At stumps, Qasim Akram and Hussain remained at the crease.
