Karachi, 1 December 2020: Day-two of the eight-round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Second XI (three-day non-first-class) tournament was completed at three Karachi venues today. Central Punjab were closing-in on a victory against Balochistan while Northern were in a strong position against Sindh after a 142-run innings by Shoaib Ahmed.
Sindh vs Northern, NBP Sports Complex, Karachi:
Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 155 for four, Northern piled a 330 for nine total in 82.4 overs. Shoaib Ahmed scored a quickfire 142 off 166 balls (18 fours, two sixes) to spearhead his side’s batting performance. Jamal Anwer provided him more than adequate support with 83 off 156 balls. Hassan Khan took four while Ashir Qureshi took three wickets for Sindh. Northern accumulated a massive 189-run first innings lead.
Sindh finished day-two at 179 for three in their second innings; Muhammad Taha was batting on 57 along with Saad Khan who was not out on 32. Sindh still need 10 more runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Southern Punjab, TMC Ground, Karachi:
Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 95 for three, Southern Punjab were dismissed for 186 runs in 68.3 overs. Rameez Alam scored 65 runs off 169 balls, Hamza Arshad contributed 24 runs. Off-spinner Saqib Jamil took five wickets, while left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi took four wickets for 65 runs. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa earned a 74-run first innings lead.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa extended their lead by reaching 189 for eight in 57 overs of their second innings at close of play on day-two. Muhammad Haris was unbeaten on 66 when stumps were drawn, Ali Usman took four while Salahudin took three wickets.
Central Punjab vs Balochistan, KCCA Stadium, Karachi:
Resuming at the overnight first innings score of 161 for seven, Central Punjab were bowled out for 198 in 54.1 overs. Junaid Ali top-scored with an unbeaten 71 off 112 balls, Rizwan Hussain made 54 runs. Off-spinner Hayatullah took six wickets for 67 runs, Central Punjab gained a 99-run first innings lead.
Balochistan ended day-two in a troubled position, they were 170 for seven (71 runs ahead) when stumps were drawn. Ali Rafeeq top-scored with 51 runs, Asfand Mehran took three while Kamran Afzal took two wickets.
