Paarl, 19 February 2023: Hayley Matthew's all-round performance saw the West Indies to a close win over Pakistan in Group-2 fixture of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
Pakistan fell three runs short of the 117-run target and have now lost two of the three matches in the tournament, extinguishing their hopes of the semi-final qualification.
The West Indies were provided a solid start after they decided to bat with openers Matthews and Rashada Williams scoring 21-ball 20 and 34-ball 30, and one-drop Shemaine Campbelle making 22 off 26.
Pakistan bowlers did well to restrict the West Indies to 116 with Nida Dar being stand out bowler with two for 13.
Pakistan openers failed to provide a decent start with Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen scoring in single digit.
The middle-order of Bismah Maroof (26 off 33), Nida (27 off 31) and Aliya Riaz (29 off 23) gave Pakistan hope of chasing down the target.
Pakistan needed 18 off the final over and Aliya Riaz's back to back boundaries on the third and fourth ball, after Fatima Sana had edged the first one for a four, reduced the equation to five off two.
The all-rounder played on Shamilia Connell on the penultimate ball and Omaima Sohail failed to connect her bat with the ball on the final ball.
