SYDNEY: Ms Naeela Chohan, High Commissioner for Pakistan in Australia, especially came over from Canberra to throw a dinner to honor Team Pakistan.
In her brief address, Ms Chohan greeted Team Pakistan, and reflecting on the present squad’s ability said, “It has the potential to relive the glory of 1992 in Australia again in 2015.”
Talking of the impact cricket and cricketers make back home, she said: “The people back home were waiting for something to cheer about, and victory in an international event of global import can truly lift the nation.
Mr Naveed Akram Cheema, manager Team Pakistan, thanked Her Excellency for the reception. He also described his feeling towards the importance of this event for the green shirts and Pakistanis. At the same time, he showed full confidence in the squad’s skill level and the coaching staff under Waqar Younis’ competence to deliver.
The dinner was attended by the entire Team Pakistan, including its management as well as Mr Abdul Aziz Uqaili, Consul General & Trade Commissioner, Brig. Mohammad Asghar, Defense Advisor, Ms. Mehreen Faruqui, Member Legislative Council, New South Wales parliament, and former Test cricketer Arshad Khan.
