Lahore, 21 November 2019: Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins took four and three wickets, respectively, as Pakistan were all-out for 240 on day one of the first Test against Australia at Gabba, Brisbane.
Pakistan, after opting to bat, got a cautious yet solid start by the opening pair of Shan Masood (27) and captain Azhar Ali (39).
The pair saw off the new ball, denying any inroads to the Australian bowlers, as Pakistan were 57 for no loss at the completion of the morning session.
The middle-order, however, failed to build on that start after Cummins removed Shan early in the afternoon session.
A collapse followed which left Pakistan reeling at 78 for four from 75 for no loss.
Asad Shafiq’s valiant 76, which included seven boundaries, held one end for the tourists and helped them to a decent first innings score. His stay, however, was curtailed to 134 deliveries by Cummins, who rattled his stumps.
Other notable contributions came from Mohammad Rizwan (37) and Yasir Shah (26).
Starc, who had earlier accounted for the wicket of Haris Sohail (one), skittled out the tail as Pakistan’s innings came to an end in 86.2 overs.
The day concluded with the fall of Pakistan’s last wicket.
