Najiha Alvi lights up PCB Women's University Tournament with magnificent century

Lahore, 1 June 2024: The fourth round of the PCB Women’s University Cricket Tournament saw Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) beat Government College University (GCU) by 229 runs at GCU Ground, Lahore.

LCWU’s Najiha Alvi scored unbeaten 128 off 58 which included 20 boundaries and three sixes. She received support from Haleema Dua (33, 24b, 5x4s) and Ayesha Amjad (25, 16b, 3x4s) as LCWU posted 257-6 in the allotted 20 overs. GCU in turn, were restricted to a mere 28-9 in 11.3 overs as one of their batters suffered an injury and could not walk out to bat. LCWU’s Yusra Sindhu and Ayesha Amjad returned with four wickets each.

In the second match of the Lahore zone, Punjab University beat Kinnaird College by six wickets at the COMSATS Cricket Ground in Lahore. Punjab University chased Kinnaird’s measly target of 62 runs in 14.3 overs.

PU were led in their efforts by Gull Rukh who scored an unbeaten 34 runs off 43 balls which included four boundaries. Earlier, bowlers Lubna Behram (4-14) and Kainat Manzoor (2-7) led their side in restricting Kinnaird College to 61 all out in 16.5 overs.

Punjab University will take on Kinnaird College in the final of Lahore Zone on 3 June.

In the Rawalpindi zone, Fatima Jinnah Women’s University (FJWU) beat International Islamic University (IIU) by 96 runs at Viqar-un-Nisa College, Rawalpindi. FJWU’s Humna Bilal top-scored with an unbeaten 53-ball 99 which included 16 boundaries and one six. Together with Sajjal Tafseer (32 not out, 20b, 5x4), the pair led their side in scoring 232-2.

In return, IIU folded for 136 in 19 overs. FJWU’s Humna Bilal and Sundus Wali returned with four and two wickets respectively.

In Rawalpindi Zone, SBBWU, Peshawar and FJWU, Rawalpindi have qualified for the final and will clash on 3 June at Viqar-un-Nisa College, Rawalpindi.

In Multan Zone, Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) defeated Women University by 10 wickets at BZU, Multan. BZU’s Wajeeha Munir (27 not out, 28b, 2x4) and Malika Shahzadi (17 not out, 22b, 3x4) chased Women University’s target of 55 runs in 8.1 overs.

Earlier, BZU bowlers led by Rimsha Saeed (4-13), Asma Shareef (2-6), and Maryam Faiz (2-16) bowled out Women University for 54 runs in 14.1 overs. Multan Zone has one group match left which will be played tomorrow.

In Karachi Zone, the University of Karachi will take on Jinnah University for Women on 3 June.
