Lahore, 28 October 2024: Islamabad Region and Karachi Region Blues defeated Abbottabad Region and Quetta Region, respectively on day three of the first round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 on Monday.
Group A
Islamabad Region beat Abbottabad Region by 326 runs at National Ground, Islamabad
Musa Khan’s second first-class five-wicket haul helped Islamabad Region to a comprehensive 326-run win over Abbottabad Region at the National Ground in Islamabad. Resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 296 for three in 74 overs, Islamabad declared their innings on 419 for seven in 106. Faizan Riaz remained top run-getter with 156 runs, while Sarmad Bhatti contributed with135 off 219 balls, which included 21 fours.
Chasing 437 to win, Abbottabad Region were bundled out for 110 in 39.3 overs. Musa grabbed five wickets for 21 runs in 8.4 overs, while Arsal Sheikh took two wickets.
Hyderabad Region v Larkana Region at Marghzar Cricket Ground, Islamabad
Larkana Region will require 297 runs to win against Hyderabad Region at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad on day four. Resuming their first innings at 243 for seven, Larkana were bowled out for 267. Hyderabad’s captain Kashif Bhatti bagged three wickets.
In turn, with a 44-run first innings lead, Hyderabad Region were bundled out for 252 in 67.4 overs. Mohammad Suleman coming to bat at number four, top-scored with a 192-ball 112, hitting 16 fours and a six. Larkana’s Shahzaib Aziz was the most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 45 runs in 13.4 overs.
Faisalabad Region v Lahore Region Whites at Diamond Ground, Islamabad
Lahore Region Whites require 72 more runs to win with eight wickets in hand when they resume their batting at 45 for two on the fourth day against Faisalabad Region.
Resuming their second innings (following on) at 103 for three, Faisalabad Region were bowled out for 301 in 86.2 overs setting a 119-run target. Atiq-ur-Rehman (94, 143b, 16x4s), Ali Shan (80, 144, 15x4s) and Faheem Ashraf (52, 110b, 9x4s) scored half-centuries. For Lahore Region Whites, Mohammad Salman bagged six wickets for 73, while Ahmed Bashir took three wickets for 42, taking his match tally to 10-69.
Group B
Peshawar Region v Karachi Region Whites at Ashfaq Cricket Ground Sirdheri, Charsadda
Peshawar Region ended third day’s play with 100 runs lead and 10 second innings wickets in hand against Karachi Region Whites. At stumps, Peshawar Region were 10 for no loss in two overs.
Earlier, after resuming their first innings on the overnight score of 144 for three in 44 overs, Karachi Region were dismissed for 466 in 127.2 overs in reply to Peshawar’s 546 all out. Opening batter Khurram Manzoor went on to score his 35th first-class century as he scored 179 off 361 balls, which included 25 fours and a six. Usman Khan (93, 127b, 9x4s, 3x6s) and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (75, 72b, 13x4s) scored half-centuries for the Karachi side.
Peshawar’s Moazzam Umar took three wickets, while Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Amir Khan and Niaz Khan took two wickets apiece.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir Region v Bahawalpur Region at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium
Bahawalpur Region will require 123 more runs to win with six wickets in hand on the final day, when their batters Abid Ali (37 not out, 92b, 5x4s) and Mohammad Umair (3 not out, 9b) come to bat against AJK at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.
Chasing 202 to win, Bahawalpur Region were 79 for four in 30 overs at stumps.
Earlier, resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 47 for one, AJK were bowled out for 192 in 55.3 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Raja Farhan Khan top-scored with a 47-ball 37, which included six fours and a six.
Bahawalpur Region’s Gulfam Aziz took six wickets for 55, while Mehran Sanwal took three wickets for 39.
Multan Region v Rawalpindi Region at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi
Imam-ul Haq scored his 12th first-class hundred as Multan were 282 for three in their second innings at stumps on day three with a nine-run lead. Imam returned undefeated on 159 off 186 balls, which included 18 fours and a six, while Sharoon Siraj scored an unbeaten 47 off 103 balls, hitting eight fours. Both knitted an unbroken 106-run partnership for the fourth wicket to help their team overcome a 273-run deficit.
Earlier, resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 450 for seven, Rawalpindi Region were dismissed for 529 in 119.1 overs. For Multan, Waseem Akram Jnr took four wickets for 92 runs.
Group C
Karachi Region Blues beat Quetta Region by nine wickets at Rana Naveed Academy, Sheikhupura
Khawaja Mohammad Nafay’s unbeaten century led Karachi Region Blues to a nine-wicket win over Quetta Region at the Rana Naveed Academy in Sheikhupura. Resuming their second innings at 54 for one with another 149 runs to win, it took 45 overs for the pair of Abdullah Fazal (82 not out, 177b, 11x4s) andNafay to achieve the target.
The pair knitted an unbroken 175-run partnership for the second wicket. During the course of the partnership, right-handed batter Khawaja, making his first-class debut brought up his maiden century and returned undefeated on 103 off 193 balls, smashing 11 fours and a six.
FATA Region v Sialkot Region at Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala
Unbeaten 181 by Mohsin Riaz and 102 from Abdul Rehman helped Sialkot Region take an 87-run lead with four first innings wickets in hand against FATA Region at the close of day three. Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 193 for two, Sialkot ended the day on 478 for six in 142.3 overs.
Mohsin Riaz hit 22 fours and three sixes, while Abdul Rehman smashed nine fours and a six in his outing. Ahsan Hafeez Bhatti was other notable run-getter in the day, scoring 59 off 97 balls, which included six fours and a six.
For FATA Region, Asif Afridi and Sameen Gul took two wickets each.
Dera Murad Jamali Region v Lahore Region Blues at Saeed Sports City Bedian, Lahore
Lahore Region Blues require another 247 runs to win with seven wickets in hand at the close of third day’s play against Dera Murad Jamali (DMJ) Region.
At stumps, Lahore Region Blues in their second innings were 72 for three in 25 overs. Hammad Butt returned undefeated on 42 off 62 balls, hitting five fours.
Earlier, resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 22 for no loss in eight overs, DMJ were dismissed for 187 in 59.5 overs. Danish Aziz top-scored with an 82-ball 42, which included five fours.
Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Zahid took three wickets apiece for Lahore Region Blues, while Mohammad Abbas took two wickets.
