- Southern Punjab U19 Blues beat Sindh U19 Blues by six wickets inside two days
Karachi, 5 August 2022: Mohammad Nabeel’s five-wicket haul followed up by four-for in the second innings helped Northern U19 Whites beat Balochistan U19 Whites by an innings and 41 runs on day two of the second round match of the National U19 Championship in Karachi on Friday.
Southern Punjab U19 Blues also won their encounter against Sindh U19 Blues by six wickets in a Pool A match at the Rashid Latif Academy Ground.
Pool A fixtures:
Resuming their first innings on the score of 122 for seven from 53 overs, Southern Punjab U19 Blues were bowled out for 142 in 66 overs. Mohammad Zahid coming to bat at number eight top-scored with a 105-ball 60, hitting five fours and one six.
For Sindh U19 Blues, Naveed Ahmed Khan bagged four wickets for 46, while Afnan Khan took three for 23 from 13 overs.
In return, Sindh U19 Blues were bundled out for 108 in the 38th over with 115 runs lead. Mohammad Zahid was the most successful bowler for Southern Punjab Blues as he took three for 27 from 11.2 overs. He was equally supported by Bilal Ahmed and Mohammad Shan – both picking two wickets each.
Southern Punjab U19 Blues achieved the target for the loss of four wickets in 37.1 overs. Hamza Nadir top-scored with a 84-ball 41, striking five fours.
For Sindh, right-arm Naveed was again the most successful bowler with three for 48 from 17.1 overs. He ended up taking seven wickets in the match.
In the second fixture of the group, Northern U19 Blues were leading by 80 runs with eight second innings wickets in hand against Balochistan U19 Blues when stumps were drawn. For Northern, first innings top-scorer and captain Shamyl Hussain was unbeaten on 26.
Earlier, resuming their first innings on 35 for no loss, Balochistan U19 Blues were dismissed for 242 in the 70th over. Opening pair of Basit Ali (64, 110b, 10 fours, two sixes) and Ikramullah Khan (60, 114b, 11 fours) knitted a 112-run partnership for the first wicket. No other batter managed to contribute significantly in Balochistan innings.
For Northern U19 Blues, right-arm fast Abidullah bagged five wickets for 85, while Aamir Hasan took three for 52.
At the NBP Sports Complex, Central Punjab U19 Blues were leading by 56 runs with nine second innings wickets in hand against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Blues. Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 22 for one, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bowled out for 258 in the 78th over in reply to Central Punjab’s 284 for eight in first innings.
Mohammad Zulkifal smashed a 173-ball 105, which included 11 fours. He was supported by Khubaib Khalil who scored 34 runs while batting at number seven. For Central Punjab Blues, right-arm off-spinner Arham Nawab took four for 66 from 24 overs. He was supported by Ali Asfand and Mohammad Zeeshan – both bagging two wickets apiece.
At stumps, Central Punjab Blues were 30 for one in 15 overs.
Pool B fixtures:
At the KCA Stadium, right-arm fast Mohammad Nabeel’s nine wickets in the match guided Northern U19 Whites to an innings and 41-run win over Balochistan U19 Whites.
Resuming their first innings on 94 for three, Northern were bowled out for 161 in the 74.4 overs. Mohammad Ammar top-scored with 43 runs. Balochistan’s Mohsin Ali and Qurban Ali took four wickets apiece, while Jahangir Khan took two wickets.
In reply, trailing by 84 runs, Balochistan U19 Whites were dismissed for 43 in the 39th over to hand Northern U19 an innings win. Only Tanveer Khan managed to enter into the double figures and top-scored with 20.
Nabeel ended up with figures of 13.3-6-15-4. He was supported by Abdul Basit who bagged four for 17. Nabeel’s match figures was nine for 30 in 27.3 overs.
At the Hanif Mohammad HPC Ground, Southern Punjab U19 Whites were leading by 202 runs with nine second innings wickets in hand against Sindh U19 Whites. Mohammad Uzair Mumtaz was unbeaten on 37, while Hamza Nawaz returned undefeated on 29.
Earlier, resuming their first innings on 16 for one, Sindh U19 Whites were bowled out for 199 in the 75th over. Opening batter Hamza Qureshi top-scored with 58 off 95 balls, hitting eight boundaries.
For Southern Punjab U19 Whites, Taha Masood grabbed four wickets for 42. Arafat Ahmed and Mohammad Uzair took two wickets each.
At the TMC Ground, Central Punjab U19 Whites were bundled out for 154 in 70.3 overs in reply to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 254 for eight in the first innings. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were 60 for three in 25 overs when stumps were drawn on the second day with an overall lead of 160 runs.
Earlier in the day, Central Punjab Whites’ Moiz Rana top-scored with 53 off 157 balls, which included five fours and one six. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Whites spin twins Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Tahir bagged five wickets each.
