Khurram bowls Ghani Glass to crucial win over WAPDA

Karachi, 27 February 2025: Test fast bowler Khurram Shahzad returned figures of 6-40 in 9.1 overs to help Ghani Glass beat Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) by 279 runs at the NBP Sports Complex, Karachi on Thursday.

While chasing 425, opening batters Mohammad Arif (51, 71b, 7x4s) and Yahya Bin Abdul Rehman (24, 42b, 2x4s, 2x6s) put on a 77-run opening stand before WAPDA slipped to 145 all out in 40.1 overs.

Khurram completed his 11th first-class five-for and also registered only his second 10-fer (10-77) in the format.

At the State Bank Stadium, Higher Education Commission (HEC) continued from their overnight score of 231-6 but were bowled out for 293 in 79.2 overs, with a 139-run deficit. HEC’s Mohammad Mohsin Khan top scored with a 136-ball 99 with the help of 14 fours.

For OGDCL Mushtaq Ahmed picked up four wickets, while skipper Hasan Raza dismissed three batters.

In reply, OGDCL’s Mohammad Umar Riaz struck unbeaten century (115 not out, 166b, 8x4s, 2x6s) and partnered with Raja Hamza Waheed (87, 121b, 12x4s) for a 144-run opening stand. OGDCL declared their second innings at 256-3 in 58.5 overs, setting a 395-run target for HEC.

HEC were 50 for no loss in eight overs, when stumps were drawn on day three.

At KCCA Stadium, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) resumed their innings from overnight score of 364-3 and declared on 568-9 in 153 overs.

SBP’s No.4 batter Aqib Shah scored 189 off 415 balls with the help of 19 fours, Muhammad Irfan Khan fell four runs short of his second first-class hundred as he departed for 96 off 139 balls inclusive of five fours and four sixes. No.7 batter Rameez Aziz also chipped in with a half century (68, 125b, 9x4s, 1x6).

In pursuit of 538-run target, KRL were 100-1 in 31 overs at close of play. Abdul Faseeh (48 not out, 107b, 6x4s) and Rohail Nazir (35 not out, 71b, 3x4s) were at the crease having stitched an unbeaten 83-run partnership.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Eshaal Associates resumed their innings from overnight score of 116-5 but were bowled out for 147 in 69.5 overs in reply to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s (SNGPL) 346 all out. Pacers Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Salman picked up four wickets apiece.

Following on, Eshaal Associates managed to bag a 48-run lead as they were 247-6 in 60 overs at close of play. Danish Aziz (77 not out, 132b, 7x4s, 1x6) and Mohammad Haris (55, 73b, 7x4s, 1x6) contributed with valuable half-centuries.
