Imad shines with the ball before rain forces no-result

Rawalpindi, 20 April 2023: The fourth T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday evening was abandoned due to rain with the hosts leading the five-match series 2-1 and the final match is set to be played at the same venue on 24 April.

After being asked to bat first, the kiwis lost three wickets inside seven overs with 54 runs on the board. All three wickets went to the left-arm spinner Imad Wasim – who not only bowled economically in the batting powerplay, but also bagged two wickets in the powerplay.

The left-armer ended up with match figures of 4-0-19-3 which included wickets of captain Tom Latham (13, 8b, 3x4s), Will Young (6, 8b, 1x4) and Daryl Michell (3, 6b).

That the tourists were managed to score 164 for five in 18.5 overs before the rain arrived to play a spoil sport was largely due to half-centuries by opening batter Chad Bowes (54, 38b, 7x4s, 1x6) and unbeaten 71 off42 balls from Mark Chapman. The in-form Chapman, who had scores of 34, 65 not out and 16 not out in the three matches played so far in the series, struck 10 fours and one six in tonight’s innings.

The left-handed Chapman also added a 54-run partnership with Bowes and then knitted a 30-ball 56-run for the fifth wicket with Rachin Ravindra (8, 12b).

Scores in brief:

No-result

New Zealand 164-5, 18.5 overs (Mark Chapman 71 not out, Chad Bowes 54; Imad Wasim 3-19)
