Lahore, 19 October 2021: Promising left-arm-wrist spinner Faisal Akram took eight wickets in the day (four in each innings) as Southern Punjab Whites U19 gained control of their National U19 Championship (three-day) fixture against Sindh U19 Whites on day-two of the second-round fixture.
In a Pool A fixture being played at the Jinnah Stadium Sialkot, Balochistan U19 Whites were staring at a defeat against Northern U19 Whites at close of play on day-two.
Balochistan U19 Whites finished the day at 95 for five in their second innings with captain and wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah fighting a lone battle with 30 not out. Usman Khan took three second innings wickets, earlier Northern U19 Whites had gained a 110-run first innings lead by posting 248 in reply to Balochistan U10 Whites first innings 138-run total.
Syed Hashim Ali top-scored for Northern U19 Whites with 83 off 141 balls (12 fours, one six). Suleman Asif scored 57 runs. Abu Huraira took four wickets.
In another Pool A fixture being staged at the Lahore Country Club Muridke, Sindh U19 Whites finished day-two at 200 for eight in their second innings after they were asked to follow-on. Sindh U19 Whites were dismissed for a paltry 149 in their first innings with Wahaj Riaz top-scoring with 49. Left-arm-wrist-spinner Faisal Akram took four wickets for 43 while Awais Abbas and Mohammad Aqib took two wickets each.
Faisal took another four-wicket haul in the second innings while Zeeshan Qasim fought hard for Sindh with 74 unbeaten runs off 134 balls (eight fours, one six). Wahaj scored 53 off 50 (nine fours). Southern Punjab U19 Whites who are favourites to win the match tomorrow scored 313 for nine in their first innings.
In the Pool A fixture at the Jinnah Stadium Gujranwala between Central Punjab U19 Whites and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 Whites, no play was possible on day-two due to overnight rain and wet outfield. When play stopped on day-one Central Punjab U19 Whites had posted 217 for nine in 72.2 overs.
In a Pool B fixture at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium Rawalpindi, Northern U19 Blues posted 270 all out in their first innings in reply to Balochistan U19 Blues first innings 182-run total. Mohammad Hussain top-scored with 76 while Mehran Mumtaz contributed 43 (60) with the help of three fours and three sixes. Shamraiz Khan and Sajjad Ali took three wickets each.
Balochistan U19 Blues finished day-two at 66 for four.
In another Pool B fixture being played at the National Cricket Ground Islamabad, Southern Punjab U19 Blues ended the day at 172 for seven in their first innings after 61 overs of play. Sharjeel Hassan top-scored with 65 off 124 balls (eight fours, one six). Moheer Saeed contributed 42, Asif Ali took four for 34 while Talha Ahsan grabbed two for 34. Sindh U19 Blues had posted 273 runs in their first innings.
In another Pool B fixture being played at the Shalimar Cricket Ground Islamabad, Central Punjab U19 Blues gained a 114-run first innings lead against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U9 Blues. Replying to KP U19 Blues first innings score of 159, Central Punjab U19 Blues posted 273 for seven in 69 overs of batting. Hasnaat Abbas who scored 67 yesterday was the top-scorer, Usama Zahid made 63 while Shahwaiz Irfanullah remained unbeaten on 57 off 77 balls (nine fours). Maaz Ahmed Sadaqat took three wickets for 39 runs.
KP U19 Blues were 10 for one when stumps were drawn for the day.
