Perth, 10 November 2024: Another powerful bowling performance from fast bowlers led Pakistan to an eight-wicket win over Australia in the third ODI, clinching the ODI series 2-1. This was visiting team’s first ODI series win over the hosts in 22 years.
Chasing a modest 141 runs to win at the Perth Stadium, Pakistan achieved the target in 26.5 overs, losing two wickets in the process. The openers, Saim Ayub (42, 52b, 4x4s, 1x6) and Abdullah Shafique (37, 53b, 1x4, 1x6) added 84-run partnership for the first wicket. Captain Mohammad Rizwan (30 not out, 27b, 1x4, 2x6s) and Babar Azam (28 not out, 30b, 4x4s) knitted an unbroken 58-run partnership for the third wicket.
Earlier, after being put into bat, Australia were bowled out for 140 in 31.5 overs. Sean Abbott (30, 41b, 2x4s, 1x6) was the top run-getter for the losing side. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi took three wickets for 32 in 8.5 overs, while right-arm pacers Naseem Shah (3-54) and Haris Rauf (2-24) ended up taking five wickets between them.
Haris, who celebrated his 31st birthday two days back, bagged 10 wickets in the series, with a best of five for 29 in the second ODI. He bagged both player of the match and series awards.
In the ODI series, Pakistan made a strong comeback after a two-wicket defeat the first ODI, as they won the second ODI by nine wickets. The last time Pakistan defeated Australia in an ODI series at their own backyard was in June 2002, when Waqar Younis led side won the series 2-1.
Both sides will now feature in a three-match T20I series, which will be played from 14 to 18 November.
