Lahore, 2 December 2019: Nathan Lyon’s five-wicket haul helped Australia record a thumping innings and 48-run win over Pakistan on day-four of the second Test played at the Adelaide Oval on Monday. Australia sealed a two-zero series sweep of the ICC World Test Championship series by their one-sided win in the day-night fixture. The hosts had also won the first Test of the series by an innings in Brisbane.
Resuming at the overnight score of 39 for three, Pakistan fought hard through Shan Masood (68 off 127 balls, eight fours and one six) and Asad Shafiq (57 off 112 balls, five fours) who added 103 runs for the fourth wicket partnership.
Shan was dismissed by Lyon, Pakistan then lost the wicket of Asad who was also dismissed by Lyon with the score at 154. Iftikhar Ahmed also fell to Lyon for a 70-ball 27.
Mohammad Rizwan (45 off 103 balls, four fours) resisted the Australian bowlers for 149 minutes before Josh Hazlewood found a way through his defences.
First innings centurion Yasir Shah fell for 13 while Shaheen Shah Afridi became Lyon’s fifth victim when he was caught attempting a big shot by Hazlewood.
Australia wrapped-up their win when Mohammad Abbas was run out for 1. Hazlewood gave good support to Lyon by taking three wickets for 63 runs.
The Adelaide defeat was Pakistan’s 14th successive Test defeat in Australia, Pakistan last won a Test in Australia in 1995-96, while the last draw was registered in the 1989-90 Sydney Test.
David Warner was named man-of-the-match for his historic triple century, he was also named the man-of-the-series, the left-hander scored 489 runs in two innings in the series.
