Lahore, 12 October 2023: At Multan Cricket Stadium, on the third day of first round of the super-four stage of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy, Islamabad bowled out Abbottabad for 279 runs, effectively shaping towards a final-day chase of just 74 runs for themselves. Ahmed Khan got a century for Abbottabad, while Farmanullah Khan registered a five-fer for Islamabad during the innings. After scoring 220 runs in their second batting attempt, Hyderabad challenged Quetta’s batting in their efforts to chase down the target of 220 in the final innings at Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan. As a result, Quetta lost three early wickets while scoring 38 runs in the 19 overs they faced in the day.
Islamabad v Abbottabad at Multan Cricket Stadium:
At Multan Cricket Stadium, Abbottabad resumed their second batting attempt from 69 for four in 23 overs after Islamabad posted 307 runs on the board the previous day. They were bowled out for 279 runs, which they scored in 111 overs.
Ahmed Khan (119, 303b, 13x4s, 3x6s) was the most valuable batter for Abbottabad. The second-best score in the innings came from Afaq Ahmed’s bat, who scored 34 runs in 98 balls including five boundaries. Farmanullah Khan shined with the ball for Islamabad as he registered a six-wicket-haul. He was supported by Shayan Sheikh and Mohammad Nadeem, who both grabbed two scalps each.
Islamabad are required to score 74 runs in the final innings to secure a victory on the final day of the match.
Quetta v Hyderabad at Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan:
Hyderabad started their day at 33 for one in 18.2 overs, batting for the second time in the game at Sheikh Khalifa Sports Complex, Rahim Yar Khan. They were bowled out after scoring 220 in 93.2 overs. Daniyal Hussain Rajput (62, 140b, 6x4s) and Ali Ahsan (39, 114b, 3x4s) were the noteworthy run-getters for Hyderabad. Jalat Khan returned with four wickets. Zainullah and Najeebullah picked two wickets each.
Chasing 220 in the final innings, Quetta had a shaky start as they lost three wickets while only producing 38 runs from the 19 overs bowled in the innings thus far. Asad Malik and Majid Asghar were the wicket-takers for Hyderabad; the former grabbed two wickets while the latter had one to his name. Hazrat Wali, who scored 14 in 40 balls including two boundaries, had the highest score on the Quetta scorecard.
